Alternatively, a rear grass deflector can be purchased separately. The pin hitch tow bar will allow you to use attachments such as leaf sweepers or trailers. For areas that are being cut on a more regular basis the mulching function cuts and re-cuts the grass into tiny particles that are blown back onto the ground where they disappear into the turf, returning valuable nutrients to the soil. A grass deflector ejects the cuttings through the rear chute where they can be left to wilt back naturally.

The Mountfield 1538H is equipped with a hydrostatic (automatic) transmission which is simplicity itself to use. To move forward simply press the forward pedal – pressing more firmly will increase how fast you will go. For reverse press the reverse pedal, you can change from forward to reverse instantly so manoeuvrability is fantastic. The 38.6 inch / 98cm cutting deck has twin untimed blades which allow the tractor to mow over rougher ground without any overlap. The 2 anti-scalp deck wheels will help it to float over the ground, providing the optimum cut and finish to the lawn. The height of cut is adjusted through 7 settings from 25 – 80mm. The grass clippings are collected to the rear of the machine into a large 240 litre collector. This can then be emptied from the driving seat using a simple lever.
